Treat your children or students to field trips in the Metro-Denver area that give them a chance to see bee pollination in action or dissect real sheep hearts. These interactive science field trips teach young minds about ecology, earth science, anatomy and biology while also offering students a chance to get their hands dirty. Choose from these five exciting science field trips and start exploring.
Anatomy: Denver Museum of Nature & Science
Heart Lab
This exciting field trip program allows kids to learn about the functions and parts of the circulatory system, as well as the human body. Small groups can dissect real sheep hearts for a hands-on learning experience. Students will have a chance to visit the Expedition Health area to investigate further how the circulatory system works. The field trip is ideal for grades three through five and can be paired with the Lung Lab program.
Earth Science: Evergreen Audubon and Nature Center
Wildlife Connections
On a field trip to the Evergreen Audubon and Nature Center, students participate in games and activities that show the connection between plants and animals. The Wildlife Connections program is designed to teach the impact humans have on the environment while also teaching students how to think critically about how the Earth is treated. This three-hour program is designed for third graders and older students and pairs well with Resource Rangers session.
Life Science: WOW! Children's Museum
Tarantula Terrarium
Expose students to creepy, crawly insects when visiting the WOW! Children’s Museum’s Tarantula Terrarium exhibit. Students gain hands-on experience by creating a tarantula habitat after learning about how to identify characteristics and care requirements for tarantulas. As an added bonus, each student can actually hold a tarantula after testing out the habitats. This interactive field trip is recommended for grades first through fourth.
Ecology: Butterfly Pavilion
Ecosystem Exploration
A visit to the Butterfly Pavilion provides students with a chance to explore the great outdoors on the Big Dry Creek Nature Trail, while also learning about ecosystems. This field trip, designed for fifth to eighth graders, teaches students how to identify and assess how living things survive and thrive in changing environments. During the field trip, students are divided into teams to collect data on the nature trail and later compare and analyze the data.
Biology: The Hudson Gardens & Event Center
Let’s Get Growing
A field trip to the Hudson Gardens & Event Center gives your students a chance to experience a plant adventure. The Let’s Get Growing program encourages learning about the plant life cycle and hands-on investigation. Students visit five activity stations to see seeds being planted, vegetable gardens growing and even bee pollination in action. This program is designed for preschool to grade three students and can be paired with the Leaf Lookout workshop.
