Explore the 1.5 acres of garden and green space at the Wyckoff House Museum to understand the life systems of different flora and fauna native to NYC. Lesson highlights include: biodiversity and the ecosystems of an urban farm, organic vegetable gardening, soil and compost, and a visit to our beehives and the surrounding native plant area. Students will use observation skills and the five senses to learn about the bounty of life on our farm in this interactive lesson.
This program will run from September 26th-November 9th 2023 + May 1st-June 14th 2024 and takes place outdoors, rain or shine. This experience does not include a tour of the historic house.
The Wyckoff House Museum preserves, interprets, and operates New York City’s oldest building and its surrounding 1.5 acres of farmland. Through innovative educational and farm-based programs we build cultural and agricultural connections within our community, emphasizing immigration, family, food, and community through history. During field trips to the farmhouse, students learn about the history of the site through inquiry, exploration, and hands-on activities.
